Sailing 201
About This Event
"Sailing the next course" builds directly on the foundations taught in Sailing 101 and moves students from simply operating a sailboat toward thinking and communicating like sailors. Taught aboard the versatile Coronado 15 fractional-rigged sloops, this course introduces jib handling, crew coordination, expanded sail theory, and the practical application of the International and Inland Navigation Rules (COLREGS 72). Students develop a deeper understanding of seamanship, situational awareness, and decision-making while refining boat handling skills in a dynamic crew environment. Greater emphasis is placed on precise steering, sail trim, communication, and consistency. Students will practice smooth, controlled maneuvers while learning how crew teamwork directly affects boat balance, speed, and safety. This is an active, hands-on course designed for sailors who want to progress toward independent sailing and club participation. Successful completion of Sailing 201 will enable participants to participate in the C-15 Rental program on site at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center.
